THE GEFFEN CONTEMPORARY AT MOCA PRESENTS: ART IN THE STREETS

Keith Haring

This past Saturday marked the opening of Art In the Streets, a collaborative project celebrating the history of graffiti and street art. Showcasing works from the movement’s most recognizable figures, Art In the Streets details the rise of the street art movement in the ’70s and beyond, featuring works from iconic artists such as Shepard Fairey of Obey fame, the late Keith Haring, and Fab 5 Freddy. With separate installations presented within the show, one of the more impressive works may be the Street Market, which will feature a re-creation of a complete urban street. Also highlighting the role that photographers have played in the evolution of street art, the exhibit will feature works from photographers such as Estevan Oriol, Ed Templeton and Terry Richardson. As the first major U.S. exhibition on the history of graffiti and street art, this one is sure to inform, but more importantly inspire.

This looks interesting and fits in so well with the “new” downtown LA.
